Cooking Up Good Design: 6 Inspiring Kitchens

Bull Creek Residence Kitchen

Kitchens are the heart of the home, where family and friends can gather together to enjoy meals and conversations.  Whether it’s new construction or a renovation, the kitchen is a major focus for our clients. A kitchen needs to be not only a practical space for the family, but also a comfortable place to congregate.  Below are six examples of our kitchen designs that are both functional and beautiful.

Meadow Creek Farm

The kitchen at our Meadow Creek Farm house is part of an open living space with tall ceilings and large windows that capture views of the Virginia countryside. The kitchen island has a custom hammered copper sink and separates a bank of cabinets from the sitting area. The dining table niche is tucked away under a dropped paneled ceiling to offer a more intimate experience for formal dining. The pantry is hidden behind the kitchen and offers a place to keep countertop appliances and clutter hidden from view. Inside this room is more workspace, added storage and even has a bar with custom beer taps.

The Lookout

Walking through The Lookout you might miss the kitchen – it’s hiding in plain sight. The kitchen is subtly located between the dining and living areas. Typical sights of a kitchen, like countertop appliances and refrigerators are tucked behind the dining wall to keep the room visually uncluttered from every perspective. A unique ceiling treatment delineates and illuminates the kitchen with recessed lighting set into a series of wooden slats. Thoughtful space planning and storage design makes the compact floor plan very functional.

Craven Gap Residence

Our Craven Gap project sits on a very narrow site and the house is only 20’ wide. Because of the narrow footprint, efficient space planning was a must. The kitchen needed to have ample storage and workspace. Using natural wood tones for the cabinetry and a neutral tone for the walls helps the kitchen blend in subtly with the great room.

Twin Oaks Residence

The dark stained wood in the kitchen of our Twin Oaks project contrasts the bright white surrounding to give a sense of separation from the rest of the great room. On either side of the stove are a built-in freezer and refrigerator that look like they are part of the cabinetry. The oven hood matches the concrete inlay on the island and gives this custom kitchen more interest.

Three Bridge House

A high vaulted ceiling gives the kitchen at our Lake James project and bright and airy feeling. We enhanced the verticality of the room with a tall custom oven hood and open shelving for display. Behind the kitchen wall is a hidden butler’s pantry to keep countertop appliances and clutter from visually weighing down the kitchen space.

Bull Creek Residence

The kitchen at our Bull Creek Residence is sleek and minimal, utilizing only base-cabinet storage to keep the kitchen feeling uncluttered. The majority of the storage is located off to the side in a separate pantry room which holds the refrigerator and other appliances. A custom white oak slab tops the generous kitchen island, while matching open shelves flank the range on the opposite wall.
