Location: Fairview, NC
Type: New Construction
The Fairview is located at Drover’s Road Preserve, a 190-acre community dedicated to environmental preservation and harmony. Our clients, passionate outdoor enthusiasts, wanted a home that would embody sustainability and harmonize with nature. Their property features lofty old-growth trees, rhododendrons, and dramatic rock outcroppings, creating the perfect backdrop for their vision.
Builder: JAG Construction
Interior Designer: Alchemy Design Studio
Landscape: Equinox

From the start, our collaboration focused on the owners’ vision: a home discreetly tucked among the trees, offering abundant outdoor spaces to immerse themselves in nature. They desired an open design bathed in natural light, with simple lines and the warmth of organic materials and tones. Natural materials blend with the landscape while rust colored Corten panels add striking texture to the exterior. The stucco gives a more organic feel and seamlessly flows from the exterior to the interior stair connector.
The home’s form is a response to the site’s topography and mirrors the natural rock formations on the property. The private wing of the house with bedrooms is built into the hill side and gives a sense of seclusion. In contrast, the more communal areas, including the living room and kitchen, open outward and invite the landscape in. The house cantilevers above the ground and culminates in a screened porch that feels suspended in the tree canopy.

Sustainability is integrated into the design process. We are prioritizing low-maintenance and durable materials to ensure a long-lasting build. A rooftop PV panel array will significantly reduce the home’s operational costs. Wood from the property will be repurposed to create furniture, including a desk, dining room pieces. This project is designed to achieve a LEED for Homes certification, with the goal of attaining a net zero rating, underscoring the commitment to environmental responsibility. Also on the project team is Equinox Environmental. Their landscape design incorporates river rock swales to manage stormwater runoff and features a comprehensive native planting scheme that beautifully integrates the home into its natural surroundings.
